The first time I became conscious of the possibilities of street art was in Valparaiso. The coastal Chilean city is actually pretty, umm, dumpy. But the vivid murals covering the garages, walls, sidewalks, and steps transformed Valparaiso into an open-air art gallery. A few years later we were in San Miguel de Allende which also impressed with its street art, though unlike Valparaiso the Mexican city is beautiful. So I was really pleased to see the art in beautiful Bristol.
I am of course being broad in my definition of street art, grouping together everything from graffiti to intentional art to brightly-coloured walls under the label street art. If it is eye candy, it is art to me.
