While in Bristol we enjoyed the vibrant city, the food at St. Nicholas market, the meandering river, the mix of old and new, and the street art in the Stokes Croft neighbourhood. Only fifteen minutes by train from Bath (50 by bus; the train was out over the weekend for track maintenance), the two cities present a vivid contrast. Bath is small, uniform, almost frozen in time, and full of transients, both students and tourists, whereas Bristol feels like a large city that is more real, more alive. If I returned I think I would stay in Bristol but certainly visit Bath. Can't go wrong with either.
