Grote Markt (Grand Market) is a large plaza next to a large church in the center of Haarlem. It's a five minute walk from the apartment if you move slowly, and we went slowly, because Grote Houtstraat (Large Wood Street), the narrow street that our apartment faces, is full of people, walking, on bikes and scooters, and on cargo bikes with kids as cargo.

It was Saturday, market day, and the food on offer at Grote Markt looked delicious, especially as I'd only had a small cup of yogurt for breakfast chased down by a pod espresso. (Yes I feel guilty about the pods). The temptations of the Grote Markt are many: sweet and savory pastries, cheeses, breads, and oh so many desserts.

We bought roti for lunch, scones for tomorrow's breakfast, a large Dutch cheese to carry home to Canada, three ambrucciata for mid day snacks, a pistachio chocolate tart and a blonde pastry tart topped with fresh berries. I'm glad the market isn't open every day as it would be too tempting.

We returned to our apartment for our lunch then took a walk to explore the city. Some photos follow, of course.
