From Chamonix, at 995 m, you can ride a cable car up to the top of the Aiguille du Midi. The altitude is 3,842 m. It provides a fine view. Once on top and weather permitting, you can take yet another cable car and go south and down into Italy. It crosses a glacier and is quite the visual feast. This segment was closed on a previous visit but it was open today.
