An easy day trip from Zermatt is to the top of the Gornergrat, a rocky ridge of the Pennine Alps overlooking the Gorner glacier. It is southeast of Zermatt via the Gornergrat rack railway. In the picture is the train station, a bit of glacier, and the Matterhorn. Up here there are trails, glaciers, a hotel, a cafe, and an observatory, and it's surrounded with views of more than twenty 4000 m peaks.
