We visited eight off-site galleries today. Our favourites were the Ivory Coast pavilion and the exhibit of South Korean triangle artist Chun Kwang Young.

 
 
 
 
Pavilion of Cote d'Ivoire  
 
A man with a severed head emerging from a solid block of wood. The pieces that follow appear to be similar pieces but at points further along in their refinement. Or perhaps not, perhaps this is the end point.

It took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust to the almost dark gallery from the almost-blindingly bright outside on the Giudecca waterfront (see yesterday's post for the waterfront).

Spread throughout a large canal-side private home is an exhibit of large pieces by Chun Kwang Young.

Young creates art using small Mulberry-paper-covered triangles. The paper is sturdy and the little triangles have writing on them. His pieces have an interesting dimensionality. The exhibit also features a room showing a video where the artist and wife are interviewed. He explains how he came to create art in this way.
